i successfully ran my first code blue! man, that was a little scary. technically, the resident's suppose to do it, but my resident was in clinic and and i was the first person there, so i had to do something. plus, he was my patient, so i really had to act fast. anyway, he's doing okay in the CCU now. these heme/onc patients are quite unpredictable. they may be trudging along, seemingly okay, but then something happens and they surprise you by all of a sudden acutely decompensating. then you're left thinking...crap, i can't just defer the job to someone else now.  crap. anyway, i'm just happy and lucky it worked out. all the more prepared for the the next time. (though lets just hope there won't be many of these "next times.")

i'm so thankful for the nurses on the floor. they're awesome and can make the biggest difference in the world! :)

well, as always, gotta get back to work.

feeling blessed.

my patients are reminding me everyday why i chose to go into this profession.

it's tiring, but worth it so far.

some studio pics for fun. i've never had any taken before, so it was an interesting new experience. man, that was a tiring day! we took over 100 pics and i probably have that many more  lines around my mouth because of it. poop.

the last few are pretty funny. haha. i just kept thinking..okay, whatever it is that's on my head, just don't fall off!

anyway, intern year's been busy, but it's surprisingly been good so far. it's nice to finally be employed and somewhat independent! ppl in my class are great and i def. feel the support from my colleagues and faculty.  lots of crazy pathology too!

i started out with night float which was quite the experience...stuffing my pockets with paraphernalia in my white coat "office space", then having to clip on 5 more pagers cause that's just what happens with cross cover here: medicine A and B, heme/onc, code, and my own pager. daunting at first, having to cross-cover and admit on your own, but you somehow just do it. (the resident is just a page or phone call away so you're not alone if you feel  stuck and need help). had 2 codes my second night on, which was certainly an eye-opener! but things turned out all right...thank goodness!

i have a little extra time this week (hence, why i am able to update ) being on a consult service, but things will pick up soon enough! it's really gonna hit me hard sept thru march with non-stop univ ward months, va, icu, more wards... i don't get my first vacay til march 2008! <sigh> its okay. just more to look forward to later in the year. everyone survives. =)

okidoke, that's all for now. must get back to work.

*update re-updated!!*

goodness, was Easter 2008 not determined until now...?

according to the English book of Common Prayer, "Easter Day is the first Sunday after the full moon which happens upon, or next after the 21st day of March; and if the full moon happens upon a Sunday, Easter Day is the Sunday after."

just our luck, Easter falls on March 23rd, 2008 with Good Friday on March 21st...thus, sandwiching our wedding date nicely in between. this is not the best time to have a wedding, esp. as christians holding the ceremony in a church. who would've thought? easter usually falls somewhere in april! well, apparently not in 2008... i'm sooo glad we found this out sooner rather than later.

*sigh* ...so...after much tedious (and a bit panicked!) re-thinking, re-discussing, re-scheduling and re-confirming, we have decided to change the date! (ack!! i know.) now, sure and final, its gonna be June 7th, 2008.  it's super easy to remember! 6/7/8. =) though it's a bit later than we'd like (making june a tad more hectic with sean's graduation the week after, moving, etc),we're happy about the change overall. thank goodness we still have the same place for the ceremony!
